Night Watch depicts the houses surrounding the school-yard at Richmond High School, in Richmond, CA where a girl was raped for several hours while bystanders watched, taking photographs. The paintings are sourced from my own cell phone photographs taken a year later at the school and surrounding area.
This series is part of a larger body of work exploring instances of witnessing violence and the associated images generated for public consumption.
